Of course, now with Facebook, &c. that seems paleolithic, but this was long before the Internet. The Nightlines audience knew each other from a continent away. I still correspond with Sean Carruthers more than I do with my blood relatives, and I still remember Maurice Pooby and Gilbert from Transcona. It was like a lonely-hearts club for insomniacs and misfits.

I don't know if David Wisdom was the catalyst for this phenomenon, but something significant did happen back then under his leadership. It was one of those unrecognized historic firsts, such as Reginald Fessenden first broadcasting sound over the radio.

-- The Insidious Uni DespairUni Despairnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18650891.post-43231979706775103902010-08-11T23:25:23.452-04:002010-08-11T23:25:23.452-04:00Dusty the Christmas dustbuster. It may sound strange, but I still ocasionally listen to the hours of cassette recordings that I made in the 90's. Dave is directly responsible for a big portion of my record collection. When I thought music was dead, he injected life back into it for me.
What is he doing now?. I visited Vancouver the past 2 summers, hung out at some record stores, but could not track him down. In light of the recent degredation of Radio Two, his absence is even more pronounced! Will I ever hear Maurice Pooby again?

Rob Car (aka that darn Robbo)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18650891.post-18873938599854029042008-09-12T03:37:00.000-04:002008-09-12T03:37:00.000-04:00Thanks for posting this (I'm reading this on Sep 1...Thanks for posting this (I'm reading this on Sep 12, 2008). I only just found out about Brave New Waves and Nightlines, having only listened to both for a few years during the late 80s. Both shows were cool. I like those "Hour of Power"s that David did, giving listeners a chance to program their own show.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18650891.post-90658068155037178962008-05-02T02:37:00.000-04:002008-05-02T02:37:00.000-04:00I'm with you, Spitz: David Wisdom is THE reason I'...I'm with you, Spitz: David Wisdom is THE reason I'm involved in radio. I'd have the show as background while reading heavy theory in university (and turn him UP when he started talking). In the first year of my own campus radio show, I'd take copious notes during his on the weekend, and then look up the records and artists he mentioned.

Any good ideas I ever had about hosting live radio came initially from him.cleverlazyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13036372719583731684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18650891.post-35470532536423280462007-03-14T08:17:00.000-04:002007-03-14T08:17:00.000-04:00I want to make it clear that I don't think the wor...I want to make it clear that I don't think the worst is yet to come on CBC Radio. I don't have any intention of sitting around wondering where all the good times have gone. I'm intrigued to find out what Laurie Brown has in store, among other new developments. But I am saddened at the unceremonious departure of personalities and shows that overturn the kind of history that the CBC should be proud of.mmmbarclayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04600641576471505917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18650891.post-84272517930106363682007-03-14T01:29:00.000-04:002007-03-14T01:29:00.000-04:00Awesome interview with Wisdom.
